Urinetown: The Musical

[Urinetown: The Musical] satirizes the legal system, capitalism, social irresponsibility, populism, bureaucracy, corporate mismanagement, and municipal politics. The show also parodies musicals such as The Cradle Will Rock and Les Misérables, and the Broadway musical itself as a form. In reverse pantomime style, the unconventional plotline shatters audience expectations of a somewhat pleasant ending. (via)

Design Brief: The theme of the Relevant Stage’s production of Urinetown was re-purposed and re-used materials. The people of Urinetown’s clothes are ragged, dirty and recycled; even the leather coats of Lockstock and Barrel are patchwork. The exceptions are Cladwell’s ice cream suit and Hope, clean and pretty in a vintage 50’s inspired pink frock. ~KM
